Project Knoll House Resort

We were invited to develop concept design proposals for the comprehensive redevelopment of the historic Knoll House Hotel in Studland. Central to our brief was the requirement to expand the current hotel to provide a significant increase in guest accommodation whilst minimising the visual impact of the development on the existing site and wider environment.

To achieve this we proposed breaking down the massing to a domestic scale and creating building typologies and open spaces appropriate for a luxury holiday village. The masterplan worked with the existing topography of the site to conceal car parking in a double-deck car park which kept the site largely free of parking and maximised the green spaces between buildings. The architectural style of the new buildings was influenced by a contemporary take on the local Dorset vernacular.
